Camp Barkeley: The Last Stop Before War Join the Wylie High School students as they lead you through historical Camp Barkeley, home of the 12th Armored Division. Learn about training exercises, weapons used, and life in the camp, where men prepared to be sent to World War II. Saddle Up And Ride With Us Have you ever wanted to have your own horse? Come ride with us to experience the rocking chair effect as horses hooves pound over the West Texas Plains. B1 Bomber: The Science of Flight Engage your students in a world of aerodynamics relating to Newtons' laws of motion as Clyde Junior High Students demonstrate the uniqueness of Dyess Airforce Base and the B1B Bomber. "Jim Ned": Frontier Hero To Many...Outlaw To All Jim Ned was a renowned frontier scout, explorer, and tribal leader that was equally famous for frontier mischief, horse thievery, and insurrection. Today, he exemplifies the misconceptions and sordid reputations of the frontier characters that helped to shape the American West. Experience the Culture of the Native People of the Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation The students who attend Lakeside High School on the Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation would like to share some of the history of the Native Coeur d'Alene People as well as share what it is like to be a modern day student living on the Reservation. We will cover the impact of cultural interaction and the modern day Tribal Government system. We will share many of the traditional customs of the Coeur d'Alene culture as well as showcase student dancers, drummers, craftsmen, story-tellers and other customs practiced by the Native Coeur d'Alenes and their community. Hunting of the Buffalo: The Tragedy of the Texas Plains Imagine the herds of buffalo stretching across the horizon of the prairie in every direction. As the hunter slowly takes aim with his long rifle, one enormous animal steps back to reveal a rare white buffalo. Considered sacred by Indians and significant by all, the white buffalo falls at the crack of gunfire and forever becomes the historical icon for a community. Let it Bee There are lots of different species of Honey Bees worldwide but we have only one indigenous species which has adapted to our wet climate. Bees play a clear role in pollinating our farm crops and it's estimated that one out of every three mouthfuls of the food we eat depends on Honey Bees. Between 1985 and 2005 the number of honey bee colonies across Ireland and the UK has plummeted by half. Albert Einstein speculated that if the Bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then Man would have only four years of life left. We will show why it is now time to act on behalf of he Honey Bee. Astronomy in Arizona Arizona is not only known as the "Grand Canyon State" but also as the "Astronomy State." Our clean air and dry climate provide incredible views of the night sky and have made it possible for scientists to make many new and exciting discoveries about planets, stars and solar systems. We will be presenting information about astronomy and its Arizona connection. Music in Denton Denton, Texas is known for its diverse music culture. From music programs in the public schools to the highly recognized music programs at the University of North Texas, there is a type of music for everyone. Learn about different musical instruments and genres of music and the different musical events that take place in Denton throughout the year. Screams From the Basement of the Courthouse In September of 1936, Frank Monaghan, Sr. was found dead in the basement of the Fayette County Courthouse in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Twelve people were indicted including the DA, local law enforcement agents and prominent doctors. In this conference we will explore the mystery surrounding this tragic event. But you can be the judge and jury in this case which still has people wondering. The Bridges over River Foyle All pupils like using technology whether it is a camera, video or putting together a power point presentation. As part of our community links in Foyle View School, we are looking at the historical, geographical and social history of the development of the City of Derry around the location of the three bridges. Join us as we visit this distinctive landscape in our home of Northern Ireland. Plug Pulled on Polio! What do you think it would be like to have polio? Before the time of Jonas Salk, polio was a deadly and incurable disease that ravished the globe. But in the 1950's a vaccine was created to combat this disease. Let us take you back to explore the time before and after the vaccine. School Transformation: Be the Buzz! Students across Vermont are coming to understand that the first critical step in high school "transformation" is helping our school communities understand the need for change. In our KC3 project youth will lead interactive activities and dialogue addressing why change is necessary and what it might look like when a community rekindles a commitment to caring for its youth. The program will be based around engaging activities to introduce school transformation to key stakeholders in schools and provide Twinfield HS students with an opportunity to share their action research project(s). The Musical Culture of Appalachia Learn about the musical and cultural heritage of the Appalachian region in the Eastern United States. We’ll cover culture, influences, instrumentation and artistry of Appalachian music and life. In addition, students will try their hand at playing a common Appalachian instrument, the spoons.
