Program Description | Have you ever woken up early in the morning and wondered why so many birds were singing all at the same time? Learn about the highly structured Dawn Chorus that songbirds sing in during those early hours and discuss why they choose this time of day. Listen to actual clips of the Dawn Chorus and learn how biologists use technology to decipher who is who during the chaotic symphony. Projects are recommended (and instructions provided) to teachers based on grade level, from drawing the dawn chorus to building a nest to building birdboxes for the classroom.
Program Format | 1. Students will be introduced to the Dawn Chorus and why birds sing. 2. Clips will be played from an actual Dawn Chorus research project recording. 3. The technology used to decipher the different species will briefly be discussed. 4. Time is allotted for questions and answers
Objectives | Students will learn why birds sing and what the Dawn Chorus is. Participants will gain an understanding of a real research project and the technology used to complete the study.
