Program Description
Child author and internationally renowned speaker Adora Svitak solves the problem of “What to write?” once and for all. Adora shares her own sources of writing inspiration, and teaches students how to look for inspiration in the world around them. Adora outlines a series of strategies for finding creative ideas in daily life, the media, and school subjects. Adora walks students through a writing activity. Teachers can download and print a list of additional ideas for future classroom use. Adora’s down-to-earth sense of humor and candid eloquence have inspired thousands of kids to look at writing in a new light. By putting writing in an entertaining and playful context, she changes kids’ attitudes towards writing and their own writing abilities, creating a lasting opportunity for creative growth and skill building.
Program Format
Adora introduces herself and describes her own journey from curious kid to internationally published author (at age seven).2. Adora introduces the strategies she uses to find writing ideas, using PowerPoint visuals and slides to emphasize key points.3. Adora engages students in discussion about potential sources of writing ideas.4. Adora conducts a brief live writing demonstration based on one of the ideas discussed.5. Adora introduces a writing activity and reads her own example.6. Adora guides students through a writing activity.7. Questions and answers.8. Adora suggests an activity for classroom session.
