Program Description Each lesson plan explores the many areas of a healthy lifestyle such as an introduction to Heart “E” Heart and his friends, exercise, and nutrition. The lessons are tailored specifically to each age-group and are more detailed in the upper grades. There are many activities within each lesson and there will also be tasks the children will work on in between meetings.
Program Format 1. Intro. by Heart “E” Heart
2. Specific lesson plans according to each grade level that include:
a. Story
b. Activities
c. Discussion
d. Follow-up
e. Optional-Healthy lifestyle parent take- home letters
f. Wellness joke of the day
(A new theme is introduced at each connection.)
Objectives The student will:
-name the 5 different food groups from the USDA food pyramid
-discuss the importance of each group
-compare and contrast healthy body characters to unhealthy characters
-understand which types of exercises are most helpful to children
-discuss the role of the blood vessels, lipids, triglycerides, and fat cells
