Grades 3-12: Intro to Judaism from Jerusalem!



A highly interactive, student-friendly overview of Judaism is presented through the investigation of Jewish ritual objects. The session will focus on the historical/theological foundations of Judaism, Jewish holidays and daily practices. Time will be allocated for questions.

The presenter is a Jerusalem-based ordained rabbi with over 30 years experience as an elementary/middle school educator in the United States and Israel.

Program Format: Jewish ritual objects will be used as a visual focus to present the historical and theological foundations of Judaism, as well as daily and holiday practices, in a highly interactive format. Objects to be presented include: Torah scroll (replica), Tzitzit (fringes), Tallit (prayer shawl), Tefillin (phylacteries), Sabbath candles, Kiddush cup for Sabbath, Shofar (ram’s horn), Megillah on parchment (Story of Esther), Mezuzah parchment (placed on doorposts of Jewish homes), Kippah or Yarmulka (head covering), and Chanukah Menorah (candelabra). A Hebrew Bible and volume from the Talmud will also be presented.
