Want to learn some fun facts about rocks and the rock cycle? In this session students will make observations about different types of rocks, understand the process of weathering and erosion, and learn about the rock cycle. This program was offered during the first semester.

Please note: there is a limit on the number of sites per session. Registrations are on a first-come basis.

Grades K-12: A Visit to the Mohawk Bark House


During this program, students will experience the history and culture of the Haudenosaunee. Students will "visit" a 1790's Mohawk Bark House and learn about the basic layout and construction of the bark house. Through the use of interaction with a museum educator and artifacts students will gather an understanding of how the Hausenosaunee blended their culture with that of the Europeans.

Grade 5: Wetlands for Life

The Wetlands for Life educational video conference is an exploration of wetland ecosystems and their importance for life. The program looks at the different types of wetlands that can be found in Alberta and then concentrates in a specific wetland called Hay-Zama Lakes Wildland Park. Hay-Zama is a wetland of international significance, as it plays a huge role as a stopover site for migratory birds and is designated as a RAMSAR site. This program was created for the grade 5 ecosystem curriculum from Alberta Education.

Grades 6-12: We Know Why Because of a Fly

Your students will get to relive the experience of Thomas Hunt Morgan as they reveal the genetics behind the Drosophila melanogaster they observe. Watch as your students develop new crosses to show linkage, sex-linked traits, and even mutations as they learn to work as research geneticists. The Israeli army is one of the most unique defense forces in the world. A citizens' army created to defend the people of the State of Israel, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) has been repeatedly pressed into action, receiving great praise, and at times, severe criticism as it has discharged its mission of defense.

Your students will sit face to face with an Israeli soldier, learning of the history and organization of the IDF and its complex mission, and will have the opportunity to ask many questions during this 50-minute session.

See what it takes to care for sick and injured sea animals, such as dolphins, whales, sea turtles and manatees. Visit Mote Marine Laboratory's Sealife Hospitals to observe actual case studies. Students will understand how marine animals are rescued in a stranding situation; learn how marine animals are treated for various injuries and sicknesses; learn what Mote Marine Laboratory does for sick and injured marine animals; and understand how they can protect these animals.
