How does sound travel from the explosion of a cannon to our ears? Why is it that different strings on a guitar produce sounds higher and lower in pitch? In this session students will observe several experiments demonstrating the properties of sound and make their own observations concerning the transmission, reflection, and absorption of sound as well as how changing the rate of vibration can vary the pitch of a sound.

Students will encounter idiomatic expressions sprinkled throughout both written and spoken language. Idioms can be wonderful vocabulary-enriching tools as students are made aware of both the figurative and literal meanings behind them. Students will get a chuckle as they see how the literal meaning creates a very different picture from the figurative message.

The 2009/2010 school year is now underway, and the Royal Tyrrell Museum Distance Learning team is revving up for another 10 months of dino-sized fun and excitement. Registration is now open, and we look forward to connecting with students in Alberta, Canada, the United States and beyond!
---| Applied Science in Palaeontology: Physics |---
The Royal Tyrrell Museum, Canada's largest dinosaur museum, is pleased to announce the launch of a brand new Distance Learning program dedicated to high school physics students!
Have you ever wondered if the formulas and experiments taught in high school physics truly apply in the real world? Our palaeontologists say, "Absolutely!" What was the bite force of a T. rex? What sort of damage could an ankylosaur tail club inflict on another animal?
Join us for the answers to these questions and more, as the sciences of palaeontology and physics collide in "Applied Science in Palaeontology: Physics"!
The Royal Tyrrell Museum Distance Learning Program now has its own Facebook Page!
Wondering what we've been up to? Where we've been connecting? Want to stay up-to-date on interesting articles, video and other web material related to electronic learning and videoconferencing?
For more information about the Royal Tyrrell Museum Distance Learning Program, and our facility in general, please visit us online. <http://www.tyrrellmuseum.com>
Have a wonderful year, everyone, and we look forward to connecting with you!
