Program Description Partnering with the classroom teacher, the teaching artist will integrate a dance lesson into the desired subject area in order to enhance student learning through meaningful movement experiences. Through dance, students will connect critical thinking, creativity and movement for a full- bodied learning experience.
For example: Tie a math concept, such as fractions or percentages, into a movement class.
This is open to any subject area.
Program Format 1. Define what concept needs to be addressed
2. Define what creative movement is
3. Work on understanding the subject better through movement exercises and partnered activities
4. Discuss as a class if concept is better understood
Objectives develop an appreciation for creative movement
discover how creative movement can help with core curriculum understanding
engage in a new way of learning ideas

Content Standard: 1: Identifying and demonstrating movement elements and skills in performing dance
- Students accurately identify and demonstrate basic dance steps, positions, and patterns for dance from two different styles or traditions
- Students demonstrate accurate memorization and reproduction of movement sequences
- Students describe the action and movement elements observed in a dance, using appropriate movement/dance vocabulary
- Content Standard: 3: Understanding dance as a way to create and communicate meaning
- - Students observe and explain how different accompaniment (such as sound, music, spoken text) can affect the meaning of a dance
- Content Standard: 5: Demonstrating and understanding dance in various cultures and historical periods
- - Students competently perform folk and/or classical dances from various cultures; describe similarities and differences in steps and movement style

Program Description Children will meet and interact with Heart “E” Heart who is actually a fully-costumed, loveable character. She will tell the children a simple story, teach them an appropriate song that coincides with the theme, demonstrate and practice a fun exercise/game for movement, and learn how to make an easy, healthy snack. Parent take-home letters and wellness coloring pages are additional options that can be sent along with activity packets.
