Program Description This program discusses what it means to be a native, alien, or invasive species in the marine ecosystem. Students have the opportunity to discuss impacts of marine invasive species on local ecosystems, to develop their own invasive species, and discuss solutions for management.
Program Format 1. This program begins with an introduction Alaska.
2. Students are guided through an interactive lecture.
3. Students are given an optional homework assignment.
Objectives Students will be able to:
• Define species as “native”, “alien”, or “invasive”
• Analyze the different impacts of native, alien, and invasive species
• Identify at least three species-based mechanisms of invasion
• Identify and explain at least two ecosystem-based mechanisms of invasion
• Design a unique invasive species with appropriate adaptations
• Develop and defend a management plan for new invasive species

Discover the similarities and differences among animals with a backbone. Learn how scientists have used their characteristics to classify them into five main classes, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Plus discover a sample of the North America's wildlife that fall into the magnificent five.

Description:I have a group of high school students (mostly 9th graders)in a Media Arts class who will be creating a self portrait using traditional drawwing and digital media skills. I am looking for a class to partner with so my students will describe their self-portriat pieces, skils used, etc. to a partner classes. Partner class can have 2-3 students volunteer to offer a critique. Specifics can be discussed later.

Ever wonder what wondrous objects you can see in the night time sky in October? Join Linda Krouse as she shares star stories for some of constellations visible right now. Your students will also learn how to best to enjoy the night sky, what planets are available for us to look at, and how to use tools besides your eyes to view the night-time sky. She will teach your students how to use a simple tool of science, a star chart, to make their night time sky viewing even more exciting.

Adaptations Explorations: Owls
Owls are remarkable birds and serve as an incredible model for your students learn about form, function, and adaptations! Leishawn Spotted Bear will make these concepts come alive using interactive activities and the Museum’s outstanding bird collection. Young students (K-2nd) will focus on the function of different body parts and bird characteristics, while older students (3rd-5th) will use body parts and systems to discuss adaptations and to compare/contrast birds with other types of animals. Both programs integrate language arts techniques (so have your students bring a journal or pencil and paper) and feature an owl pellet dissection.

BOO-tiful Pumpkins! Grades 1-3

Students will examine various math concepts in this “fall themed” video conference lesson. Using a pumpkin, the presenter will facilitate an interactive student lesson on circumference and estimation. Student groups work collaboratively to explore the mathematic concepts and to explain their methods of achieving the answer. Appropriate literature is used to solidify the topics explored.

Coming to America! Grades 3-6

Use as a supplement to your Thanksgiving themed lessons! This program explores the first English settlements in America: Jamestown and Plymouth. By viewing this program students will discover who the colonists were, from where they came, how they crossed the ocean, and the things they did to create settlements in the American wilderness.

Living in a New Land Grades K-2

PERFECT addition to any Thanksgiving activity!
This program looks at why the Pilgrims chose to come to the new world, and the settlement they made in the American wilderness. Students will use various reasoning skills to determine the challenges that they faced, the tribes they met, and the hardships they endured. Students will compare and contrast cultures for a better understanding of the life and times during the 1600’s.


No Tricks...Just Treats!

Do you need a “fall themed” interactive literature lesson to teach a variety of language and reading standards (story sequencing, making predictions, answering literal and evaluative questions)? Then this is the session for you! Students who participate in this distance learning event will explore autumn safety tips through video streaming, student discussion, brainstorming, group activities, and literature extensions. Presenters will use literature written by Audrey Wood to discuss fall safety precautions. An important lesson that should not be missed!

Where the Buffalo Roam Grades 4-5

Students will investigate the ways in which the Native Americans relied on the buffalo for their survival. Shared discussion, videos, literature, and an interactive game will show students how valuable this resource was in their lives. Don't miss out on this fall event!
