Program Description
Columbia, Missouri author Barri Bumgarner discusses what it takes to become an author. By opening the door of communication, Ms. Bumgarner highlights the importance of writing early, as she published her first story when she was 13. She will answer any and all questions students have about what it takes to write novels, short stories, and even poetry, all the while earning a living at it. Ms. Bumgarner shares how she writes, why she writes, and any other details students want to know. She will also discuss the plots of her books, as well as that of her award-winning young adult novel Dregs.

The goal of this session is to allow students the opportunity to learn about writing as a profession, to understand it through an author’s eyes, and to explore any nuances about the profession they might have.
