Program Description		Students will learn about the function of Intrepid as a city at sea to over 3000 crew members. Crew member responsibilities, jobs and places of work will be highlighted to give students insight on how sailors lived on board an aircraft carrier. Students will investigate museum artifacts, historic photographs and view a video of a former crew member’s account of his experiences on Intrepid.
Program Format		1. This program starts with a description of Intrepid. 2. Students will discuss the similarities between the ship's community and their own. 3. Students will break up into four groups to analyze historic photographs. 4. Students will use a graphic organizer to describe their thoughts on what jobs were aboard Intrepid. 5. Students will hear account of former crew member's experiences aboard Intrepid.
Objectives		Students will be able to: - Describe the role and function of the USS Intrepid as an Aircraft Carrier - Recognize and name the jobs and responsibilities that existed on Intrepid - Compare/contrast student community with Intrepid’s ‘Community at Sea’ - Understand how studying historic photos and artifacts gives us clues to the past

Program Description		Students will use latitude and longitude to pinpoint the locations of Intrepid as she navigated the east and west coasts of the North American Continent and the Panama Canal before going to the Pacific Theater of WWII. Additionally students will examine historic film and photographs, hear the experiences of a former crew member and learn about how a ship is dry docked.
Program Format		1. The program begins with a brief history of Intrepid's history. 2. Students learn about latitude and longitude. 3. Students plot Intrepid's journey in the Atlantic ocean. 4. Students view video of historic film footage and veteran interview. 5. Students learn about Intrepid navigating the Panama Canal through examining historic photographs. 6. Students continue to plot latitude and longitude of the Intrepid in the Pacific Ocean. 7. Students view historic film of aircraft landing mishaps. 8. Students learn about the ship's dry dock.
Objectives		Students will: -Define the terms latitude and longitude and how they work do pinpoint locations on earth -Plot the voyage of Intrepid from Norfolk, Virginia to California -Name the types of geographic features that Intrepid encountered -Briefly describe how a canal works -briefly describe how a dry dock works
