Program Description | A museum educator will use primary documents from the June 6th, 1944, D-Day Invasion of Normandy to teach your students about the importance of primary documents. The program will cover how we use these sources to see what really happened in the past, why they are essential in any good research, and how to locate/identify quality sources. | |
Program Format | 1. We introduce the Museum in New Orleans 2. Brief background of WWII and D-Day history 3. Define and Discuss what Primary & Secondary sources are. 4. Students explore and compare a series of primary D-Day descriptions: a diary, official communiques, action reports, and newspaper reports | |
Objectives | Students will learn the basic history and importance of D-Day Students will learn how to interact with history through artifacts, oral histories, and primary documents Students will learn to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of different types of primary sources | |

Program Description | The Dead Sea Scrolls, considered to be the most important manuscript discovery in the 20th century, refer to thousands of fragments of nearly 900 scrolls discovered in eleven caves along the coast of the Dead Sea. Join award-winning, published, Jerusalem archaeologist Yonatan Adler, as he brings the Scrolls to life for students in Grades 3 - 12, while concurrently acquainting students with the fundamentals of the science of archaeology. | |
Program Format | Through the use of a PowerPoint presentation and the examination of selected artifacts, the following topics will be explored: 1. What are the Dead Sea Scrolls? 2. How were the Dead Sea Scrolls discovered? 3. How are the Dead Sea Scrolls dated? 4. Who wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls? 5. What do the Dead Sea Scrolls teach us about early Judaism and nascent Christianity? 6. How have archaeological excavations at Qumran (the site of the Dead Sea Scrolls discovery) enhanced our understanding of the scrolls? Time will be allotted for questions and answers. | |

About the Content Provider | The Center for Puppetry Arts opened to the public on September 23, 1978, when Kermit the Frog and his creator Jim Henson cut the ceremonial ribbon. The first puppetry center in the United States, today it is the largest American organization solely dedicated to the art of puppet theater. The Center has been a leading voice in the field, and has hosted numerous conferences and festivals. In addition, the Center has been recognized both nationally and internationally as an organization for excellence. The Ford Foundation recently selected the Center as one of only 28 national organizations to be recognized for success in management and innovative programs. The prestigious Kresge Foundation awarded the Center three different grants to support its capital campaigns. The Center was also the only theater group chosen by the 1996 Olympics to participate in all four years of its arts festival program. | ||
