Program Description | In this two part course, students will look at ways to create a sustainable school. Students will work together or individually to create their ‘dream green school.’ During the first lesson, students will be introduced to different options and materials used for building a school. The second lesson focuses on sustainable features that can be added to a building to help reduce its carbon footprint ex. Solar, grey water systems, natural lighting etc. The goal of this program is to introduce students to different systems in a sustainable environment. Materials will be provided before the first class to assist the teacher and students with their designs. | |
Program Format | Lesson 1 1.This program begins with a discussion on sustainability: what it is and why it is important. 2.Discuss and see pictures of different types of sustainable buildings 3.Brainstorm ideas for different building materials 4.Discuss different building material possibilities for their school. 5.Time is allowed for questions and answers. Lesson 2 1.This program begins with a discussion to find out what materials students have decided to use in their buildings 2.Students are introduced to and shown examples of different alternative energies they can use in their design. 3.Students address other sustainable features such as green space, grey water systems, recycling programs etc. 4.Time is allowed for questions and answers. | |
