Program Description
It's migration time! "Whoop It UP!" provides information about this rarest of crane species, and the efforts of the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership to bring it back from the brink of extinction by teaching cranes to migrate behind ultralight aircraft.This lively program is tailored to be age-appropriate, and a teacher packet containing additional resources and activities is provided. Active student participation is encouraged during the program and a variety of media are used to deliver content. The curriculum supports Wisconsin State Model Academic Standards.
Program Format
1. The program begins with students activating prior knowledge about whooping cranes.2. Information is shared regarding identification, habitat, diet, range, behavior.3. Age-appropriate activies include simulating crane dance, flying in formation, comparing arm span to wing span.4. A short video is watched describing the ultralight aircraft training process.5. Environment stewardship and habitat protection are discussed.

Participants will develop and understanding of the Whooping Crane species and its fragile place in the North American ecosystem.

The bulk of the time is devoted to demonstrations of unusual musical instruments like the Turkey Baster Flute and the Tool-a-balloon-a-phone. The program concludes with examples and instructions of how to make your own musical instruments from everyday items and includes time for question and answer.

Program Description

This program uses the theme of symbolism to tell the story of the national flags, in particular the American Stars & Stripes. Our flag history begins with the British and French colors, flies through Colonial and Regimental flags, and finally explores the many official flags of the United States throughout our history. Students will make a flag that symbolizes their distinct personality. We will also demonstrate the proper way to care and display the American flag.
Program Format

1. This program begins with the explanation of how flags were invented for use by countries.2. We then describe at least a dozen versions of flags that were designed to be used as U.S. flags before settling on the stars & stripes we see today.3. Using the 50-star flag of today we explain the proper way to display, handle and protect the U.S. flag.4. Finally, the group is given the task of designing and making a flag that best describes themselves. (ex: likes cats, baseball, movies, etc.) and helps to make people see who they are.Throughout the program the presenter will ask questions to engage the group in discussion and get them involved with the program.

Washington was chosen to be the commander-in-chief of the American revolutionary forces in 1775. But even before that he was known as the "hero at the Monongahela" during the French & Indian War when he was a young man. Later,elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses and married Martha Dandridge Cutis, he inherited a farm own by his brother. Find out who the real George Washington is, beyond the wooden teeth and chopping down a cherry tree.

This program opens with a reporter from a local news station announcing that he is going to interview General George Washington.The interviewer will ask the genera a series of questions that he will answer.A question and answer period by the class will commence when the interviewer has completed his questions.

Program Description

In 1861 and the call went out for men to join the Union Army there was less participation than you would think. But in the Confederate Army it was a different story all together. Both sides fought in the Civil War, but they were further apart in many other reasons besides miles and political ideology. We describe the differences of both armies and why the "War Between the States" was fought. More soldier's died in the Civil War than WW II, Korea and Viet Nam combined. There weapons were more modern than Revolutionary War, but their equipment had not changed much. We will investigate the Civil War soldier as you have never seem him before.
Program Format
1. We will present a virtual tour of Fort Mifflin via DVD presentation.2. Discuss the cause and effect of the Civil War.3. How a soldier for the Confederacy and Union was recruited and enlisted into the army.4. Describe the uniforms and equipment used by both sides using authentic artifacts and reproduction items.5. Show a DVD of 19th century musket and cannon demonstration.6. Question and answer period.
