The presentation explains the Buddhist culture from the story, including the Ten Commandments in Buddhism. The program concludes with students playing the Chinese version of "scissors, rock, paper" and a second participatory activity.

Students hear the famous legend, "Nu Wa Mends the Sky" and why Chinese people call themselves descendants of the dragon. The program features the influence of the myth on the modern society, Confucian culture, and relationships among people.

Program Description
Columbia, Missouri author Barri Bumgarner discusses what it takes to become an author. By opening the door of communication, Ms. Bumgarner highlights the importance of writing early, as she published her first story when she was 13. She will answer any and all questions students have about what it takes to write novels, short stories, and even poetry, all the while earning a living at it. Ms. Bumgarner shares how she writes, why she writes, and any other details students want to know. She will also discuss the plots of her books, as well as that of her award-winning young adult novel Dregs.
The goal of this session is to allow students the opportunity to learn about writing as a profession, to understand it through an author’s eyes, and to explore any nuances about the profession they might have.

Who's blood is it? Solving the mystery of a crime scene

The Forensic Investigation, Research and Education (FIRE) organization, a student group at UNT Health Science Center, will walk students through the processing of a crime scene, from proper evidence collection and handling to testing a sample in the laboratory. In the lab, they will explain how a sample is treated to obtain the DNA and how the DNA is used to create a profile. Participating students should have some understanding of cell structure and function but the focus will be on laboratory techniques.
