Program Description | There are 2 versions of our 1001 Inventions Virtual Visit: One will focus on the Home Zone of the exhibition. This will deal with inventions created almost 1000 years ago that still shape our everyday life. Students will engage in several activities creating similar inventions as seen in the exhibition. (Primary Audience: 3rd-5th graders) The second version focuses on the Universe Zone. This deals with how ancient astronomers expanded our view of the universe. Students will also engage in several activities creating instruments/tools that are helpful for us to understand our stars and constellations.(Primary audience: 6th-8th graders) | |
Program Format | Both programs will have the following format: 1.)Introduction to the museum 2.)Discussion on Ben Kingsley video and premise for the exhibition. 3.)Look at one of the specific exhibits (i.e Elephant clock exhibit) 4.)Hands-on activity (i.e create lemon power clocks) 5.)Visit another exhibit (i.e camera obscura exhibit) 6.) Hands-on activity 7.) One final exhibit and conclusion wrapping up overall theme of the exhibition and program | |
Objectives | The participants will: -engage in numerous activities creating similar inventions that were have benefited society for years. -develop an appreciation for past inventors who have helped shape our lives today. -explore the history of various cultures with an emphasis on the muslim culture and how all cultures have contributed to an assortment of inventions we can't seem to live without. | |
